I left my TIME in High School
Time is of the essence. In high school, I used to think that I was pressed for time when it came to managing all my life’s goals/events/activities, and that high school was an accurate representation of how I would time manage throughout my life. I was wrong. Looking back on it, I had all the free time in the world during high school. Homework for the entire week would take only a couple of hours, the occasional textbook reading, and maybe an essay. Outside of class, socializing would predominantly take place on the weekends, leaving the evenings over the week completely open to do what I please. My how life has changed since then; nowadays, I do roughly 4-6 hours of homework a night, multiple textbooks to read every day, and an essay about every other day. I wake up at 6:30 am every morning so that I have a chance to get some homework time in before my first class of the day begins. In high school I NEVER used an assignment notebook; however, I find myself gluing one to my hip here at Iowa State University. The social scene has changed quite a bit as well, especially since I am in a fraternity. I have around 2 hours of fraternity related events every night of the week, sometimes much more. Anyway, being in college has quickly taught me how to manage my time, and IF it presents itself, how to cherish the little free time I get. One of the greatest things in my life right now is in thanks to Alpha Tau Omega, and that is the required out of house hours, in which I go to the Hixson-Lied Student Success Center and do homework every day from 12:30-4:00pm. It gives me an incentive/forces me to go work. If that rule weren’t in place, I might have found myself in a very bad situation academically.
