Superman, Spiderman, Batman, My brother and father? These are my hereos...
It all started in 1994, when I was five years old. It took place during the winter months in Neillsville, Wisconsin, at my grandparent's tree farm. My brother and I were throwing rocks into one of the land's ponds from one of the cabins on the property. After some time of watching John's rocks break the ice and plummet to the bottom of the water and my rocks simply skipping across the ice, I became frustrated. With this newly found disgust, I went down onto the ice determined to get a rock to the bottom of the pond. As I was walking down the dock and onto the ice's surface, I found the perfect place to throw my rock into the water, the aerator. Around the aerator was a thawed out area about eight feet in diamater, where the circulation of the water had prevented ice from freezing over the liquid. I then knew where to put the rock, now I just had to get over there. As I was around the aerator, I lost my footing on the ice and fell into the frozen pond, unable to swim. Helpless, I was bobbing in the water as my jacket was making an effort to keep my afloat.
The point to this story, is that without my brother reacting quickly and retrieving my father, and my father’s valient effort to rescue me (he fell in four times before he reached me), I simply would not be alive today. Every day I think about this day, and thank God for my brother and my father. In more ways than one, they have saved my life, and for this, they are my superheroes.
