History

Boom! History baby! It is my new major! Sorry if I seem excited, but I am just ready to get this new part of my life started. Sadly, I have to wait until second semester before I can start pursuing this major. I chose history for several different reasons:

Growing up, my father has always been a fan of history. Countless times I would come downstairs to find him watching the History Channel, or some film that had a historical event as its thematic motivation. At an age I can't remember, I began to get very interested in the shows/movies that he would watch, so I would watch them with him. Some of my favorite films/TV shows of all time are based on events that have happened in our country's history.

With a passion that was cultivated by my father, I would go to school looking forward to history class every day; thus, my favorite class was, that’s right, History!
During Sophomore & Junior year in high school, I had a teacher that would change my life. His name was Stephen Van Nuys. He taught me Modern European History AP and U.S. History. He was my favorite teacher throughout high school. He brought a certain level of humor into the class that made it fun and calming. When you were in his class, you weren’t tense or flooded with the thoughts of being in a typical class, but you felt welcome and comfortable with him as the instructor. In addition, the level of intelligence that he brought to the class every day just made his credibility surmount that of any other teacher I have ever had in my life. Mr. Van Nuys changed my life, and introduced me to the field that I want to teach when I graduate from college, U.S. History.

I would love to go back to Lake Forest High School and teach there. In the far future, I would also love to be a professor at a University in the Midwest.
