Stereotypes (pun intended, can you figure it out?)

I have always wondered how music may affect the kind of person someone turns out to be, and how we as a people maybe be able to know certain things about people based just off their preferred audio styles. In some cases, I am sure that you are able to establish a fairly accurate preconceived notion of someone, but I know of many circumstances where the person in question doesn’t associate himself with that genre of music so easily. Is there a difference between a person who enjoys rap music over alternative, or perhaps metal over country? If there is a difference, I want to know what it means.

I am an exception to this preconceived notion, as my two favorite genres of music are both Rap AND Metal, so what does that tell you about me? Take a look at me, what do you see? I neither dress nor act as someone you might link to either type of musical preference, yet gaze into the lovely realm that is my iPOD, and you will be inundated with artists such as Rick Ross, Plies, T-Pain, 2Pac, Scar Symmetry, As I Lay Dying, and many more. Am I an extreme exception, or is this a common false accusation made my society? Does your musical preference tell us who you are? NO! Listening to the music that I listen to you will sure as hell not tell you that my favorite hobbies are eating food & weightlifting, that my favorite color is blue, that I have two dogs whom I love dearly, and that the most frequent color to show up in my closet is pink. We cannot judge people by the music they listen to, for if we do, we will find ourselves ostracizing those who may be closest to us.

*(Making a stereotype of my own, I often link the colors red & black to that of Metal music as those colors typically dominate album artwork and t-shirts that I see...please forgive my innocence hahaha.)
