E-Trade Commercials = Genius

While in psychology earlier this semester, I learned many different things regarding methods advertising companies use in order to get the attention of the consumers. In one of the lectures, my professor discussed several very specific ways that advertisements force their audience to remember the product/commercial. One such tool, which is clearly evident in all three of these E-Trade commercials, (at least in my immature opinion) is the utilization of humor in each advertisement. By using humor in an effort to make each viewer react by laughing, we are subconsciously storing that ad in to our brain because of our strong connection/reaction to the comical rhetoric. All three of these visual modes of communication are hilarious, and even after several months of not seeing them, I am still able to recite them from memory due to the strong influence/impact it had on me the first time I saw it on television. No matter what the product is, if advertisements simply have the power to make people REMEMBER them vividly, then that company’s product sales will increase dramatically as opposed to a weaker, dryer commercial advertisement.
